South Sulawesi Tour
Day 1: Arrival Makassar
  Upon arrival at Hasanuddin Airport Makassar (UPG) pick up and transfer to your hotel in Makassar. You have the day off to prepare yourself for the coming weeks. You can visit the huge western style shopping malls in Makassar to buy things for your tour. In the evening you can visit the cinema to see a new released movie.
 
Day 2: Makassar City tour
After breakfast we will begin with the Makassar city tour. We will visit the old Dutch Fortress Rotterdam, Paotere (Traditional Fish Market) and Paoterethe Buginese “Pinisi”schooner harbour, Mr. Bundt’s orchid’s collection (famous Indonesian Orchid garden), Monument Mandala, the Tomb of Sultan Hasanuddin in Gowa and Somba Opu shopping street where you can find the famous Makassar gold. We will dine at a local restaurant and pass the night at our hotel.
 
Day 3: Makassar - Sengkang
After breakfast we will travel via Malino and Bantimurung to Sengkang. Malino is a hill resort with a spectacular waterfall. Bantimurung is a famous place, because of it's magnificent limestone’s waterfalls and beautiful exotic butterflies. We will lunch at a local restaurant and at the end of the afternoon we will check in our hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
 
Day 4: Sengkang - Torajaland
After breakfast we will travel by long tail boat to Lake Tempe. This is Sulawesi’s largest lake; we will enjoy the beautiful bird wildlife on the lake. We will visit local people in their floating houses on the lake, drink a cup of coffee with them and eat some of their specialities. After lunch we will pick up our luggage and drive via Enrekang to the cultural district “Tana Toraja”. This trip is great because of the views; we will see green rice fields, emerald green mountains and original villages. Arrival at the orphanage project will be late in the afternoon, where we will stay the next 7 days.
 
Day 5

day 12:
Torajaland - Volunteer program
In the morning we will recieve a tour information pack and a short conducted tour of the orphanage. After lunch we will start with our teaching and a sport and leisure program.
The next 7 days are reserved for our volunteer program at the orphanage on a full board base. On day 12 there will be a farewell dinner at the orphanage where you will also recieve a present.
 
Day 13: Torajaland
After breakfast in the orphanage we will say goodbye to the children and staff to begin our Torajaland. We will visit: Londa, Ke’te Kesu, Sangalla, Palatokke, La’bo, Lemo, Buntu Pune. If possible we will visit the local buffalo market; the locals try to sale their buffalo’s and pigs for Toraja funeral ceremonies. If there is a traditional funeral ceremony in Torajaland we will certainly visit it. The funeral ceremonies are unique and only arranged in Toraja. We will make time for our lunch and dinner today and drop our luggage at the accommodation.
Ke’te Kesu is a famous traditional village with a huge cave full of coffins, scales and bones. In Londa we find Tau Tau’s: statues of people who past away. You can see how artists make a Tau Tau from a big hunk of wood.
We will discover the real Toraja culture in the burial cave of Londa with an oil lamp! At the end of the afternoon we will return to our accommodation for the night.
 
Day 14: Torajaland - White Rafting
After breakfast we will go to the Sa’dan River for spectacular white rafting. At the end of the drop we will make a 1 hour walk through the mountains of Tana Toraja. At the edge of the riverbank we will be handed out a lifejacket and pedal and recieve further instructions. After lunch at the riverbank we will continue with white rafting. We will see amazing large iguana’s resting at the huge rocks in the river. This area is quite and located between huge Toraja mountains. At the end of the day we will check in to our accommodation.
 
Day 15: Torajaland
After breakfast we head on to the mountains of Torajaland. We will visit Batutumonga, Lempo, Deri, Pangala, Sa’dan, Palawa and Pana. Batutumonga is a spectacular group of mountains in Torajaland; from the top you will have a magnificent panorama view of Rantepao and the Sa’dan valley. Sa’dan is a weaving centre in Torajaland, we will find out how the locals make their blankets. We will plant several young trees in the Toraja Highlands to support our ecosystem and provide for our nature. We will have lunch at a local restaurant. Late in the afternoon we will arrive at our traditional mountain lodge. After dinner we will overnight in a traditional Tongkonan (Toraja house), it's primitive but cosy! We have a magnificent panorama view from our rooms over mysteries Torajaland.
 
Day 16: Torajaland - Bira Beach
After a great sunrise we can enjoy breakfast on our balcony, before starting our long trip to the south. We will stop for the lunch near Watampone (Bone) and then will head on to Bira Beach. The panorama views during the trip are great, in the middle of rice fields, quite places. We will check in our beach accommodation at the end of the afternoon. Here we can enjoy our stay in a beach lodge.
 
Day 17: Bira Beach
After breakfast we will visit the traditional shipbuilding at Tanah Beru or Marumasa. The local boat builders use old traditional techniques to craft traditional ships. We will also try to observe Frisky monkeys at a cave, but only if we don't disturb them. We will make time for lunch at our accommodation and afterwards there will be a dive program with our own boat and instructor at Pulau Seleayer, Marumasa, Pulau Beteng or Pelau Lihhukan. With any luck we will see dolphins swimming next to us in the crystal clear blue water!  
In the evening we will light a small campfire on the beach. This is our last night in Indonesia and we hope you will keep sweet memories of this tour.
 
Day 18: Bira Beach - Makassar
After an early breakfast is the transfer to Hasanuddin Airport of Makassar for the flight to your next destination. End of this Emerald Indonesia tour program.
